This 17th Century cottage oozes character and literary history. Without neighbours, and situated next to Rydal Water - one of the Lake District’s most tranquil lakes, Nab is superbly located for a Relaxation Retreat. From the moment you arrive you will receive a warm welcome, enjoy a drink by the log fires and savour the food straight from the cottage’s aga. Save some room for the puddings!
How to get there
By car: Between Ambleside and Grasmere on the A591. From Ambleside: head north approx. 2 miles towards Grasmere on the A591. Nab is the white cottage on the right hand side of the road opposite the lake. If you miss it, carry on till White Moss car park on the left to turn round. Parking available in the drive

Bus Tel 0870 608 2 608 Bus 555/556 from Windermere towards Grasmere (ask bus driver to drop you off at Nab Cottage, Rydal - NB not an official stop).

YHA Coniston Coppermines is spectacularly located almost half way up a mountain with a view to match, this friendly hostel looks down the valley to Coniston Water, and is surrounded by fells, allowing hillwalkers easy access onto Wetherlam and the Old Man of Coniston itself.

Bus: tel 0870 608 2 608 Stagecoach Bus 505/6 from Ambleside (with connections from Windermere station), then 1mile.
Tel 015394 32304 for YHA shuttle bus information which runs from Windermere train station to Coniston Village twice daily.
By car / foot from Coniston village: Take road between the Black Bull Pub and Co-op. The road becomes a rough track, climbing steadily then levelling - distance 1 1/4m.
NB: track to hostel not suitable for cars with low ground clearance.
Parking available outside hostel or in Coniston village.

This 200-year-old mansion is ideally suited for a relaxing group break. Boasting extensive grounds which include woodland and a waterfall, it is situated right on the shore of Derwentwater, which many say is the most picturesque lake in Britain. On the lake you can catch the launch nearby and stop off at any of the six jetties to explore the shoreline. There is also a selection of spectacular walks to suit all levels.

Public transport to Keswick:
Train: tel 08457 484950 : Nearest station is Penrith (20 miles). Regular Stagecoach bus service (X4 or X5) from Penrith Station to Keswick.
Also train station at Windermere (22 miles). Regular Stagecoach bus service (555) to Keswick
National Express coach to Keswick (daily service)
From Keswick to YHA Derwentwater.
Bus: tel 0870 608 2 608 Then Stagecoach Bus 79 stops at the bottom of the Hostel Drive. Regular service from Keswick
By car: from Keswick follow signs to Borrowdale. The hostel is 2 miles south on the Borrowdale road (B5289), 100 metres on the left past the turn off to Watendlath/Ashness Bridge.
Parking available in hostel drive.
Walkers should follow the lakeside path from Keswick.
